According to information from Counterpoint Research, Apple generated a full 46% of global smartphone sales in 2024 thanks to the iPhone. In 2023, this figure was 50%. While this reflects a decline, Apple still managed to increase the average selling price of an iPhone to $903. Although the iPhone generated 46% of sales, the smartphone "only" had 18% of the market share.
This is due to the significantly lower average selling prices of all other smartphone manufacturers in the top 5. A Samsung smartphone costs an average of just $299 and a Xiaomi smartphone just $152, which in turn make affordable models such as the Samsung Galaxy A25 5G or the Redmi Note 14 Pro extremely popular. Samsung suffered slight setbacks in both revenue and sales in 2024, while Xiaomi and Vivo achieved growth.
While Samsung had a similar market share to Apple at 18% last year, Xiaomi came in at 14%, while both Oppo and Vivo had 8%. Overall, the smartphone market grew by 5% in 2024, which Counterpoint Research attributes to the recovering market economy. While Vivo recorded the most significant sales growth at 20%, this title goes to Xiaomi in terms of the number of smartphones sold since the company sold 16% more units than in 2023.
