After having recently launched in the global market, Infinix has finally unveiled its latest Smart 9 HD affordable smartphone in India. It comes as a successor to the Smart 8 HD (curr. $71.10 on Amazon), which was announced in December 2023. Although design-wise, the smartphone looks very similar to its predecessor. The smartphone has undergone a few key upgrades in terms of display and processor.
The Smart 9 HD features a 6.67-inch (up from the 6.6-inch of the Smart 8 HD) LCD display that outputs at a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 500 nits. Sadly, there’s no upgrade for the camera department. The device retains the same camera specs as the predecessor, featuring a 13 MP primary camera, which is complemented by a secondary AI sensor. It has an 8 MP shooter on the front for capturing selfies and video chats.
The Infinix Smart 9 HD utilizes a MediaTek Helio G50 processor paired with 3 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage with room for storage expansion up to 1 TB via microSD card. It runs Android 14 Go Edition-based XOS 14 out of the box, and there’s no word on software support from the brand, indicating software updates may never arrive.
Furthermore, the entry-level smartphone houses a respectable 5,000 mAh battery that supports super-low 10 W wired charging. Other features of the Smart 9 HD include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button, stereo speakers with DTS, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, an IP-54 rating for dust and splash resistance, and up to 3 GB of virtual RAM expansion.
The Infinix Smart 9 HD retails at INR 6,999 (~$77) and will be available from February 4 via Flipkart. Visually, the smartphone will be available in Coral Gold, Mint Green, Neo Titanium, and Metallic Black colorways. For more details, head over to the official product page of the Smart 9 HD.
