Apple's all-rounder 5K Studio Display has dropped to an all-time low price thanks to an Amazon deal. The 27-inch Studio Display has a maximum brightness of 600 nits, 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, a sharp webcam, and minimalist design. While it's definitely a good deal, there are other options available if you are willing to compromise on looks.

Apple users have always been in a bit of a predicament when it comes to monitors, whether it be because of Apple's oddball Retina standard and preference for 5K displays or simply aesthetics. The Apple Studio Display meets both those requirements, offering the sleek, minimalist industrial design Apple is known for alongside a 5,120 × 2,880-pixel native resolution on a 27-inch panel.

The Studio Display also boasts 600 nits peak brightness, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, and a rather impressive 12 MP webcam powered by a built-in Apple A13 Bionic SoC. That SoC enables features like Center Stage for the webcam and True Tone for the display, making it a convenient catch-all productivity monitor that's even capable of a little content creation on the side.

At the time of writing, while the Amazon deal is still available, the Apple Studio Display is discounted to $1,299.99 on Amazon, shaving a sizeable $300 off the original price. That, however, is without the Nano-Texture glass or tilt- and height-adjustable stand. Those options are also discounted, and will cost the following:

  • Studio Display with tilt- and height-adjustable stand, standard glass: $1,699.99 (15% off)
  • Studio Display with tilt-adjustable stand, Nano-Texture glass: $1,599.99 (16% off)
  • Studio Display with tilt- and height-adjustable stand, Nano-Texture glass: $1,999.99 (13% off)

While the current Amazon deal certainly isn't cheap, it's a record-low price for the Apple Studio Display, according to CamelCamelCamel. At the same price, however, you can get two 49-inch Samsung Odyssey G9 (G95C) gaming monitors (curr. $749.99 on Amazon), which feature a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, cover 92% of the DCI-P3 colour space, and top out at 240 Hz refresh rate and 5,120 × 1,440-pixel resolution.

While the Samsung G95C is a gaming monitor with less spectacular looks and a slightly lower resolution, the Samsung display has a much faster refresh rate than 60 Hz of the Apple Studio Display, but it compromises somewhat when it comes to typical brightness, with a typical rating in HDR scenes of just 450 nits. It also offers much more screen real-estate, thanks to a 49-inch diagonal and 32:9 aspect ratio.
