The Samsung Galaxy A55 may be closer to launch than ever, with a device bearing its rumored identifiers gaining approval for sale in the US from the Federal Communications Commission. It seems the FCC might have had an easy time of it, as the device seems all but unchanged compared to its A54 5G predecessor in some potentially important ways.

The Samsung SM-A556E and SM-A556E/DS are thought to launch as single- and dual-SIM versions of the same new smartphone respectively later in 2024. Now, that rumor has more weight as both model numbers are now inextricably linked to the same device in a new FCC listing.

Anyone hoping for improved charging speeds in the middle of the mid-range Galaxy A-series for a change will be disappointed in this potentially definitive new leak. Then again, a prospective A55 5G owner can now almost be assured of being able to keep right on using their trusty Samsung EP-TA800 power brick (not to mention their first-party EP-DN980 USB-C to -C cable) despite the smartphone upgrade.

Accordingly, it seems the Galaxy A54 5G successor will yet again debut as a 25W "Super Fast Charging" device in 2024. The A55 is even thought to look much like its forebear - then again, it is also tipped to be different on the inside with the newest Exynos platform available to it, at least.

Need a Galaxy A54 5G to go with the Samsung 25W power brick hanging around in a drawer? Grab one at $349.99 (or -22% off its typical listed price) on Amazon.
