Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 4G vs Samsung Exynos 850 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G
Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 4G
► remove from comparison
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 (SD685, SM6225-AD) is a mid-range ARM-based SoC largely found on Android tablets and smartphones. It features 8 Kryo 265 cores (custom design, 64-Bit capable) that are divided in two clusters. A fast cluster of four cores with up to 2.8 GHz (Kryo 265 Gold - Cortex-A73 derivate) and a power saving efficiency cluster with up to 1.9 GHz (Kryo 265 Silver - Cortex A53 derivate). Both clusters can also be used together. According to Qualcomm the SD685 is around 15% more CPU performance and 10% more GPU performance compared to the old SD680 (thanks to higher clock speeds).
In addition to the 8 CPU cores, the SoC integrates a mid range Adreno 610 GPU with a LPDDR4 memory controller (dual-channel) and supports Wi-Fi (802.11ac + MIMO, max. 867 Mbps), Bluetooth 5, and LTE (X11 LTE modem with up to 390 Mbps download).
The SoC is produced in 6nm.
Samsung Exynos 850
► remove from comparison
The Samsung Exynos 850 is a System on a Chip (SoC) for entry level smartphones (Android based). It was announced in May 2020 and the first device with it is the Samsung Galaxy A21s. The chip integrates a processor with 8 small ARM Cortex-A55 cores that clock with up to 2 GHz (octa core).
The multi threaded performance is quite good thanks to 8 cores, the single threaded performance suffers a bit from the small A55 cores, although the clock rate of up to 2 GHz can help a bit.
Furthermore, the SoC integrates a LTE modem (Cat.7 2CA up to 300 MBit/s download, Cat.13 2CA 150 MBit/s upload), a Wi-fi 5 modem (802.11ac), LPPDDR4x memory controller, eMMC 5.1 flash memory controller and a video engine for FHD 60fps encoding and decoding (H.265, H.264, VP9).
It is manufactured in the modern 8nm LPP process at Samsung and should offer a good power efficiency and therefore it is also suited for small smartphones.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G
► remove from comparison
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 (SD680, SM6225) is a mid-range ARM-based SoC largely found on Android tablets and smartphones. It features 8 Kryo 265 cores (custom design, 64-Bit capable) that are divided in two clusters. A fast cluster of four cores with up to 2.4 GHz (Kryo 265 Gold - Cortex-A73 derivate) and a power saving efficiency cluster with up to 1.8 GHz (Kryo 265 Silver - Cortex A53 derivate). Both clusters can also be used together. Compared to the older Snapdragon 665, the clock speeds are higher.
The SoC is produced in 6nm (compared to the older 11nm LPP process of the similar Snapdragon 665).
