The Retroid Dual Screen is an accessory that adds a second screen to a compatible handheld. Announced back in June with shipping scheduled for August 5, the accessory has faced a delay in getting into customers hands. Thankfully, that is about to change.
Retroid has announced via its social media channels that the Dual Screen Add-On will begin shipping tomorrow, August 19. According to the post on X, the final USB cables, which seems to have caused the delay, have arrived.
The post also revealed that the OTA updates for the Retroid Pocket 5 and Retroid Pocket Mini V2 should arrive this week. It is not known if these updates are tied to the functionality of the dual-screen add-on or will bring other features and or fix bugs related to the handhelds.
The Retroid Pocket 4 Pro will also receive an update based on a comment under the original post and the response provided by Retroid. However, it seems it might arrive later.
The Retroid Dual Screen Add-on is available to order for $69 from the manufacturer's website. It connects via a USB-C cable to supported devices such as the Pocket 5, Pocket Mini V2, Pocket Mini, and Pocket 4 Pro (curr. available on Amazon for $174). Retroid also has a version of the Dual Screen Add-on for other devices that have DisplayPort support via USB-C and with a screen no larger than 7 inches.
When attached, users will be able to duplicate their screen or run different apps on each screen. The addition of the second screen should also make it possible for users to better emulate dual-screen handhelds such as the Nintendo DS.
