MagicX has returned with details about a new gaming handheld after releasing the Zero 40 at the end of June. For context, the arrival of the Zero 40 occurred only shortly after MagicX teased the One 35 and refreshed the Mini Zero 28 with a V2 variant (curr. $69.99 on Amazon). This time, the company has provided early renders about a device dubbed the Retro 45.
While MagicX has not officially unveiled the device yet, that which it has revealed so far indicates that the Retro 45 is aimed at those looking for a gaming handheld suited for emulating Dreamcast, Genesis (Mega Drive), Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn games.
At this stage, it is unclear whether 'Retro 45' is the device's final name. For instance, MagicX originally presented the Zero 40 as the Touch Zero 40 before dropping 'Touch' branding altogether. Unfortunately, MagicX has not shared any specifications about the Retro 45 yet.
Instead, MagicX has revealed a few details about the Retro 45 in the three renders shared on its Discord channel. Embedded throughout, the images show an eight-way d-pad on its left-hand side above an N64-style joystick. Also, the Retro 45 has six action buttons to mimic a Sega Saturn, albeit arranged X Y Z A B C from top to bottom and from right to left. A pair of triggers can also be seen, as can a design that mirrors that of the existing Zero 40. It remains to be seen when MagicX will share more details about the Retro 45, though.
