Is the retro handheld market saturated? MagicX unveils new handheld with 2DS vibes

MagicX already offers several handhelds and is currently working on additional models. The company has now unveiled a new concept that, while far from a finished product, is actively seeking community feedback on Discord. This move reflects a broader industry trend: according to MagicX, the retro handheld market is saturated, with a growing number of devices featuring very similar designs from a wide range of manufacturers, including many available on Amazon.
With this unnamed handheld, MagicX aims to serve users with different performance needs. One version is expected to use a MediaTek Helio G99 and cost $125. A second, higher-end version featuring a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 is planned for $165. The larger model upgrades to 4 GB of RAM instead of 3 GB, and its UFS storage doubles from 32 GB to 64 GB. Both versions are expected to include active cooling and a 5-inch display with a resolution of 768 × 1,024 pixels. MagicX’s concept image shows a handheld that is clearly reminiscent of the Nintendo 2DS.
Whether it launches in this exact form may depend on user feedback. The company is specifically asking whether the pricing makes sense and which features could help the device stand out.
