The new Motorola Razr phones will arrive next week, April 24, and it looks like they will offer users a choice for what AI assistant they want to use. Typically, Motorola implements its homegrown AI system and allows access to Google’s Gemini. Now, according to a new report, the new Razr phones will come with Perplexity AI assistant as an alternative to Gemini.
Perplexity is yet another AI startup that is competing with the likes of Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and others. It offers similar performance as the other AI assistants with some added features like the ability to pull from social media sites like Reddit and X for real-time context. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Perplexity AI will be available as an alternate assistant on the upcoming Motorola Razr phones. The company's marketing material for the launch has also been focused on AI, suggesting some major changes coming with the new phones.
Both Motorola and Samsung are said to be working with Perplexity for its AI assistant to be implemented on their phones, but Motorola has already reached an agreement. Samsung, on the other hand, is still discussing the terms which could involve having Perplexity AI as the default assistant or preloading the app on its phones.
Motorola’s Razr 2025 series will be unveiled on April 24 and at least two new devices are expected. Recently, full specs of the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra were leaked, suggesting up to 16GB RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a 4,700 mAh battery that supports 67W wired fast charging as well as 30W wireless charging. A 7-inch (1440p) LTPO AMOLED display with HDR 10+ support, 4,500 nits peak brightness, and 165 Hz refresh rate is expected. The cover display, however, is said to be the same size as last generation.
