The upcoming Redmi Turbo 5 lineup could set a new standard for smartphone endurance, according to recent leaks out of China. Reports indicate that Xiaomi is preparing to make a major leap in terms of cell capacity. The company could launch the Redmi Turbo 5 series with one of the largest power backups ever seen on a mainstream device: a 9,000mAh battery.
Recently, reliable Chinese tech tipster Digital Chat Station confirmed on Weibo that a 9,000mAh battery solution with support for 100W wired super-fast charging is ready. As usual, this battery will be used first by Chinese manufacturers.
Redmi Turbo 5 series could mark the beginning of the 9,000mAh phone era
Although DCS didn't specifically mention which phone will incorporate this powerful solution, My Drivers added more details. According to the report, the upcoming Redmi Turbo 5 series will be the one to get blessed with this 9,000mAh battery.
This leak is especially significant when considering the current state of high-capacity devices. Recently, flagship phones like the OPPO Find X9 series—recently launched in the global market—and the OnePlus 15 made headlines for their own remarkable cell capacities of 7,000+ mAh and above. However, the rumored 9,000mAh battery in the Redmi Turbo 5 would go even further.
This enormous capacity is thanks to advancements in silicon carbon battery technology, which allows manufacturers to increase energy density without adding significant bulk to the phone's design.
10,000mAh battery under testing
It's noteworthy that the DCS leak also mentions a 10,000mAh unit currently being tested in labs, which could be even more exciting for the future.
The Redmi Turbo 5 series is expected to make its debut between December and January. However, there remains some confusion about which specific model will carry the 9,000mAh pack. This is partly due to earlier conflicting reports suggesting the base model would use a 7,500mAh unit. It is likely that the largest battery will be present in a Pro variant or another higher-end configuration.
Performance to match the power
A battery of this size requires a high-performance engine. Rumors suggest the standard Redmi Turbo 5 will be among the first phones globally to launch with MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 8500 chipset. Built on TSMC’s 4nm process, this chip promises strong raw power with an octa-core CPU clocked up to 3.4GHz.
For users seeking top-tier performance, the Turbo 5 Pro is rumored to step up the specifications with either the new Dimensity 9500e or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The Dimensity 9500e, in particular, is tipped to feature a powerful Arm Cortex-X925 core and hardware-level AI acceleration.
