Realme announces a global debut for its Watch 2 and 2 Pro, if not its laptop
Realme has held an event to announce availability and pricing for its GT flagship Android smartphone throughout more of the world for the first time. Less expectedly, the device has been joined on this stage by the brand's Watch 2 series. Like its predecessor, this smartwatch has a square face; however, it distinguishes itself with more features and a Pro variant.
This new variant has a 1.75-inch AMOLED display, whereas that of the Realme Watch 2 is 1.4 inches. The former is rated to last up to 14 days between charges, as opposed to 12 in the latter. The Pro is also the only watch of its line to have standalone GPS. Otherwise, the two support 90 sports modes, music and notification controls for a paired smartphone and SpO2 sensing.
The Watch 2 and 2 Pro will be available via Amazon and Realme.com from June 16, 2021, at €55 (~US$67) and €75 (~$91) respectively. It was thought that they would be joined on this stage by the OEM's first-gen laptop and tablet. While the event's presenters did confirm that the 2 devices do truly exist, their launch is being saved for later.
Realme has also noted that this is partially because the laptop, in particular, is not exactly ready yet. A MacBook-like prototype was revealed in passing during the show; however, it may not conform to the device's final form.
This is because Realme has implemented a "Community Design" process, whereby its fans can offer input into the "Book's" specs and features. This strategy has worked out for some OEMs, Realme's very own sibling OnePlus included, in the past, if not so well for some others.
Any disappointment at the Realme Book and Pad no-shows was the job of Realme's first-gen TechLife Robot Vacuum to clear up. This smart wet-and-dry cleaning device was introduced as a sign that its maker is definitely gunning for rivals such as Xiaomi in expanding its "1+5+T" product ecosystem.
The new smart-home gadget has sensors including LIDAR for object-avoidance, cleaning-path adherence and defence against things such as stairs, and starts at €199 on its AliExpress debut until June 25, 2021, or a normal price of €299 thereafter.
