Inspired by Heroes of Might and Magic, Songs of Conquest is currently available on Steam for just $7.50 instead of $30 – a price the 4X strategy game has only rarely reached.

Songs of Conquest blends classic turn-based strategy in the style of Heroes of Might and Magic with city building, RPG mechanics and tactical combat. If that sounds appealing, the 4X strategy game is once again available on Steam with a 75% discount, dropping the price from $30 to its all-time low of around $7.50 – a deal that hasn't appeared very often. According to SteamDB, the last time the Steam Deck Verified title (currently available on Amazon for $720) received a discount this steep was in March 2026. During the Steam Summer Sale, by contrast, it was discounted by only 50%.

The story takes place in Aerbor, a fantasy world where four very different factions battle for land and power. Arleon is home to knights and fairy folk, Rana is made up of various swamp creatures, Loth commands necromancers and the undead, while Barya fields mercenaries and gunpowder-equipped armies. The conflict is told across four separate campaigns, each from the perspective of a different faction. After every completed mission, players also unlock a new verse of a bard's song that musically chronicles the story of that faction.

Gameplay unfolds in turns. Players control powerful mages known as Wielders as they explore the world map, collect resources and artifacts, capture mines and expand their settlements. Whenever two armies meet, combat shifts to a separate hex-based battlefield. The spells a Wielder can cast depend on the units accompanying them and the Essence those units generate. In addition to the story campaigns, the game also features standalone maps, randomly generated worlds, co-op and PvP multiplayer, as well as a map editor with community-created content.

Reviews have praised Songs of Conquest for its deep combat system, well-balanced factions and detailed pixel art style. God is a Geek awarded the game 9 out of 10, also highlighting its generous amount of content and excellent Steam Deck performance. Criticism has been relatively limited, focusing mainly on a few campaign missions and the fact that longer matches can occasionally become repetitive. Steam players appear more than willing to overlook those shortcomings: 86% of roughly 12,000 user reviews are positive.
