Deal | This strategy-RPG, now discounted by 70% on Steam, is loved by 79% of players

Robotality's turn-based tactics game Pathway is currently 70% off on Steam. It has dropped to $4.79 from its usual $16 price, thanks to a Chucklefish publisher sale running through July 31. This new price ties its lowest recorded price since launch.
Released in April 2019 by German studio Robotality and published by Chucklefish, Pathway puts players in control of a band of mercenaries in the mid-1930s attempting to stop Nazis from recovering powerful occult artifacts. All this happens across a procedurally generated campaign set in North Africa. The developer describes it as a tactical RPG set in a 1930s pulp adventure scenario, built on lessons learned from their earlier game Halfway, and its unique look comes from a pixel/voxel hybrid technique that adds depth, lighting, and shadows to pixel art.
Players get to customize characters through skill trees after defeating enemies. Progress and recovered items are carried over between sessions, though a loss in battle costs that entire run. A free post-launch update also added a hardcore permadeath mode for players wanting more challenge.
Reception has been "Mostly Positive." Pathway is currently sitting at 79% positive reviews (out of 2,200+ total) on Steam. Critics were somewhat more split — PC Gamer loved its Indiana Jones-inspired setting and turn-based combat but found the repetitive mission structure eventually wore thin. Some other outlets echoed this sentiment as well. It's a fair description for players who enjoy short, atmospheric bursts of tactical combat rather than a game built for dozens of hours.
At under $5, this strategy-RPG looks to be a low-risk pickup for those curious about its pulp-adventure premise, especially with the sale price matching the game's historical low. Read more about Pathway here.
