The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is currently free to keep on Steam until July 23 — you can add it to your library before then and it's yours permanently. The game normally retails for $14.99.

It has been developed by Sever and Schisma Games. The game itself a narrative-driven hardcore RPG set in a world ruled by real but unrelenting gods, featuring a unique black-and-white hand-drawn art style that gives it its own identity on the platform. Players live out the entire life of the titular character under an oppressive empire, working out social rules, political expectations, and religious authority — with choices that carry real consequences. Some reviewers have even drawn comparisons to Disco Elysium in structure and tone. 

The game also features a resurrection system that lets players revisit decisions and change their approach, which can be pretty useful given how heavily outcomes depend on stat thresholds that gate certain choices entirely.

The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante currently holds an 89% positive rating across over 9,700 reviews on Steam. It came out in March 2021 and has held a strong reputation as one of the better text-based RPGs on the platform.

The game is also free to claim on GOG simultaneously, where the first two chapters are available as a standalone free version for those who want to try before committing.

Steam's "Free to Keep" promotion usually doesn't announce giveaways in advance, so the July 23 deadline is a hard cutoff. You can simply claim the game now and install it whenever you get around to it.
