Deal | RTX 4090-powered Acer Predator Helios 18 with 250 Hz mini LED display discounted to lowest price ever

The Predator Helios 18 gaming laptop from Acer is an excellent choice for high-end laptop gaming enthusiasts who don't mind the eye-watering price tag that the RTX 4090-equipped beast commands. Thankfully, Best Buy currently has the laptop on sale with a sizeable 20% discount, dropping the price to its lowest yet at 'just' $2,399.

Unsurprisingly, the Predator Helios 18 in question is quite the powerhouse of a laptop. At its core, the laptop is powered by the Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU paired with 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory. The processor is among the fastest mobile CPUs currently available on the market, with only the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D being slightly ahead in certain multi-threaded workloads. That said, as our comprehensive review of the laptop points out, the Helios 18 performs somewhat below average, and the same goes for sustained performance, which is nothing earth-shattering, but worth noting.

Handling the graphics is an RTX 4090 Laptop GPU with 16 GB of VRAM and an abundant 175 W TDP. However, the story with GPU performance is a replication of what we just glimpsed with CPU performance - decent overall, but slightly below average. For instance, the ROG Strix Scar 18 pulls ahead of the Helios 18 in our gaming benchmark, and that laptop sports a very similar configuration. The fan curve leaves much to be desired as well, and the noise profile, although loud, is not particularly annoying.

Thankfully, the Helios 18 boasts an excellent display. The 18-inch Mini LED panel gets extremely bright and sports a resolution of 2560 x 1600 with a refresh rate of a whopping 250 Hz. Color reproduction is impressive as well, with 99.7% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut. That said, the response times are unsurprisingly not as good as OLED panels. For the vast majority of gamers and professionals, the Helios 18's display will leave little room for complaint.
