ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate design is allegedly revealed in a new leak
Asus may have puzzled some mobile gaming fans by failing to launch the latest top-end ROG Phone SKU as introduced in 2021 with 18GB of RAM as part of the current 6 series. Then again, the OEM has now affirmed that the line of premium Android smartphones is going Ultimate after all, thanks to a switch to the Dimensity 9000+ processor.
Now, 91Mobiles claims to have secured this device's first-ever renders, alongside those of a plain ROG Phone 6D. The 2 variants look quite like their Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered 6 and 6 Pro counterparts, down to the corresponding Aura RGB and ROG Vision rear-facing LED accents (which comprise an active display in the case of the latter) getting an encore in the 6D and 6D Ultimate respectively.
Then again, the refreshed models have a new, gunnmetal-gray color, possibly intended to set them apart from existing 6-series SKUs. In addition, the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate is depicted as having a new rear-facing feature next to its power button that honestly looks like a hatch or a cover for some kind of new interface.
Should these new images prove accurate, Asus may devote some time during its upcoming September 2022 product event to an explanation of what it is. Given its MediaTek platform, one might need to brace for the fact that it might be a China-only launch as usual; then again, the Phone 6D series has been teased by ROG's global Twitter channel...maybe this time?...
