QD-OLED goes to esports: Samsung starts mass production of 24.5" ultra-fast displays

Samsung Display is set to start mass production of a 24.5-inch Full HD QD-OLED panel aimed specifically at esports and first-person shooter games. The company revealed at Gamescom 2026 that it plans to begin production later this year, with several global PC manufacturers already preparing monitors based on the new panel.

The 24.5-inch size is widely used in competitive gaming because its relatively compact dimensions allow players to see the entire screen at once. That can be an advantage in games that demand quick reactions and precise control. Samsung Display will add the new panel to its existing QD-OLED lineup and expand its presence in the competitive gaming market.

Samsung says the panel offers a response time of around 0.03 milliseconds, along with the deep blacks associated with self-emissive displays and the high color purity and wide gamut provided by quantum dots. The new 24.5-inch panel is still only Full HD, but Samsung is clearly targeting a segment where speed and screen size matter more than resolution.

Mass production will begin this year, and multiple global monitor manufacturers have already announced products featuring the new 24.5-inch panel. Samsung may also release monitors featuring the new panel. As a result, 24.5-inch QD-OLED displays could soon become a much more common sight in competitive gaming.

The launch comes as Samsung continues to dominate the QD-OLED monitor panel market. According to Omdia, the company shipped around 2.5 million QD-OLED monitor panels in 2025, accounting for nearly 75% of the overall self-emissive monitor-panel market.

At Gamescom Samsung is expanding its own gaming-monitor lineup. The company unveiled its 2027 Odyssey lineup, including a 49-inch OLED G9 with a 360 Hz refresh rate, a 32-inch OLED G8 capable of up to 680 Hz at Full HD, a 42-inch curved OLED G7 and a 27-inch Odyssey G6 with an industry-first 1,100 Hz refresh rate.

The company is also using Gamescom to promote QD-OLED technology. Around 180 QD-OLED monitors and TVs are being used in demonstrations from Capcom, Krafton and CD Projekt Red.

Samsung Display’s new 24.5-inch panel could make QD-OLED much more common in the esports monitor market, where this screen size is especially popular among competitive FPS gamers.
