Deal | Post-apocalyptic city builder drops below $2 on Steam for the first time

At first glance, the premise of Endzone – A World Apart is somewhat reminiscent of Fallout: A catastrophe has nearly wiped out humanity and forced the survivors into underground shelters. 150 years later, they venture back to the surface. Unlike Bethesda's RPG series, however, players don't shoot their way across the wasteland but instead try to build a new civilization. Radiation, contaminated rain, droughts and sandstorms make that anything but easy. Endzone is 92% off on Steam until September 8, bringing the price down to $1.99 from nearly $25. According to SteamDB, the previous biggest discount was 90%, meaning the current deal marks a new all-time low.

In terms of gameplay, Endzone doesn't reinvent the wheel, but spices up its city-building formula with a healthy dose of survival. Players need to ensure that their residents have enough food, drinking water, housing and other essential resources. More than 70 different buildings are available, allowing players to gradually establish complex production chains and a functioning infrastructure.

The real enemy, however, is the environment: Soil has varying moisture and radiation levels, radioactive rain contaminates water and fields, while droughts cause supplies to dwindle. And when natural disasters aren't causing trouble, raiders might be. At the same time, the population continues to grow, increasing not only the available workforce but also the demand for food, water and housing. Expeditions to abandoned ruins provide some additional variety.

German gaming magazine PC Games particularly praised the unusual post-apocalyptic setting, the increasingly challenging struggle for survival and the intuitive micromanagement in its review. The rather shallow research tree and occasionally unrefined balancing were less convincing. Sandstorms in particular can also become frustrating over time, while the gameplay gets somewhat repetitive later on. Ultimately, the publication awarded the game 7 out of 10 points.

The Steam community's verdict is similar: 76% of more than 9,900 user reviews are positive. Metacritic lists the city builder from Gentlymad Studios with a Metascore of 72 and a User Score of 6.9. On the Steam Deck, the game is rated “Playable.”

By the way: The sequel, Endzone 2, which was released in 2025, is also heavily discounted on Steam right now. A 70% discount brings the price down from $29.99 to $8.99 until September 8.
