Possible Asus Zenfone 3 smartphones spotted on GFXBench
Asus is already nearing completion of the Zenfone 3 if these latest findings prove to be true. The current Zenfone 2 series includes the Z008 and Z00AD model numbers. Interestingly, a couple of unknown Asus models have shown up on GFXBench with the designations Z010DD and Z012D, which may suggest two SKUs of the inevitable Zenfone 3.
The Zenfone 2 family is notable for its use of Intel Atom processors. According to these findings, however, Asus may be moving away from Microsoft and back to Qualcomm with the Snapdragon 600 series. The 5.5-inch Asus Z012D is expected to carry a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 (formerly known as the Snapdragon 618) with integrated Adreno 510 graphics, 3 GB RAM, and a 1080p resolution display.
In contrast, the Z101DD is expected to be a larger and less powerful 5.9-inch model with a resolution of 720p, an octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC, integrated Adreno 405 graphics, and 3 GB RAM. Its rear and front cameras are listed as 13 MP and 5 MP, respectively, and both SKUs are expected to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The current Zenfone 2 series offer excellent performance and roomy 1080p displays for the price, albeit the smartphones are some of the largest 5.5-inch consumer smartphones around.
