Polar: Existing smartwatch receives new functions from premium model free of charge via software update
Polar has just launched a new multisport smartwatch, the Polar Grit X2 Pro, with appealing and high-quality features. The company already has a range of various, conceptually similar smartwatches, which, according to confirmed information, will also be equipped with new functions like on the Polar Grit X2 Pro.
Polar is utilizing what is probably not the most usual form of corporate communication, namely a response to a particular YouTube comment. Under the announcement trailer for the Polar Grit X2 Pro, a user asked for a firmware update for the Polar Vantage V3 and promptly received an answer from the manufacturer.
The Vantage V3 will be supplied with a firmware update upon launch or, more precisely, the shipping date of the Polar Grit X2 Pro, which, according to current information, falls on April 3. This is expected to include several new functions such as 3D speed. This not only takes into account the vertical speed, but also the climb completed in order to calculate the three-dimensional speed. Ascents (or 'climbs') and descents can be measured in real time and the average ascent speed is measured in a 30-second time window.
In addition, the Vantage V3 will get enhanced navigation, i.e., breadcrumbs navigation. This is intended to make it easier for users to follow routes that have already been taken, which, for example, helps users to find their way back easily.
