A heavily pockmarked Tesla Cybertruck has been spotted driving on the highway, with Elon Musk later stating that the vehicle had undergone some serious bulletproof testing. It seems the test went well, as Musk was pleased to announce that none of the rounds had managed to get into the Cybertruck’s passenger compartment.

The Tesla Cybertruck has apparently found itself a new market sector to target: crime lords – or basically anyone concerned about a drive-by shooting or planning a road trip in a war zone. When the electric truck was officially revealed back in 2019, a 9 mm round was shot at the door panel to show the vehicle’s bulletproof capacity (although the “unbreakable” windows suffered an ignominious failure at the time). Now, the Cybertruck has been spotted on a highway with dozens of bullet holes on its side panels.

As shared by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, the Cybertruck in the video clip is coasting along apparently suffering from no ill effects despite being riddled by over fifty bullet marks. In a response to a comment made by Farzad Mesbahi about the sighting, Elon Musk cleared things up by revealing that the Cybertruck had stood up to an “entire drum magazine of a Tommy gun” being unloaded on the driver side in “Al Capone” style. The Tesla chief ended his post by commenting that “no bullets penetrated the passenger compartment”.

For those who care, the Thompson submachine gun was designed to utilize .45 ACP rounds, which are used in current weapons such as the SIG Sauer P220 Combat and P245 pistols. It has been reported that this particular cartridge caliber has a “shallower penetration” than the more well-known 9 mm type, but when you are unloading over 50 rounds of any type of ammo into a Tesla Cybertruck and it is still capable of both protecting the driver and being somewhat roadworthy, it can be understood why Musk once called the bulletproof feature “badass” and “super cool”.
