A fan of the Tesla Cybertruck happened to have a measuring tape on hand upon spotting one of the infamous electric pickup trucks. The measurements indicate that the Cybertruck will have an impressively-wide bed, despite being considerably narrower than the Ford F-150 Lightning and just barely skinnier than the Rivian R1T.

An enterprising Tesla Cybertruck fan spotted the vehicle in the wild and managed to grab some sneaky measurements of both the width of the rear bumper and the rear wheels, posting their results to the Cybertruck Owners Club online forum. The measurements reveal a 72-inch bumper and a roughly 78-inch track width, but what is perhaps more interesting is what these measurements can tell us about the rest of the upcoming electric vehicle, particularly as it pertains to the bed.

A separate recent sighting of the Cybertruck was able to give us somewhat clear images of the truck's bed without the tonneau cover in place. Knowing the bumper width, we can estimate the width of the Cybertruck's bed with some photo editing tricks.

While there is some margin for error, it appears as though the Cybertruck's bed will be about 54 inches (137.2 cm) wide at the tailgate opening. An impressive width, considering the Rivian R1T's bed is only 51.1 inches (129.8 cm) at the floor, narrowing to 50.2 inches (127.5 cm), and Ford claims the F-150 Lightning's bed is 50.6 inches (128.5 cm) wide. This estimated measurement unfortunately doesn't take into account the narrowing at the wheel wells, although that looks to be no more than one or two inches per side.

All this is to say that the Cybertruck appears to be at least as capable of hauling as its nearest competitors, but likely more capable, given the claimed six-foot bed length. Granted, this is speculation based on fairly blurry images and hastily-taken measurements in a parking lot. Nevertheless, Cybertruck fans will likely be pleased to see that the EV is somewhat adhering to Elon Musk's promises of a compact, capable work truck.
