The hype around Tesla's Cybertruck has become nearly non-stop, with a near-constant stream of leaks, images, and videos popping up of Tesla's upcoming electric pickup truck. The latest update, though, comes courtesy of Tesla itself, as the company has confirmed that, although the design of the Cybertruck has changed somewhat throughout the development process, the six-foot bed has remained.
As far as we know, Cybertruck will be the first sub-19 ft. truck (fitting into a garage) that has both four doors and 6+ ft. bed.
As for the competition, the Rivian R1T measures in at 18 feet (5.5 m), but its bed only measures in at four feet six inches. Ford's F-150 Lightning, on the other hand, is around 19 feet (5.8 m) five inches, but it only has a 5.5-foot bed. Despite what Ford's CEO has to say about it, this combination of a compact body and a large bed makes Tesla's Cybertruck a rather attractive prospect for anyone looking to haul loads or get "real work" done.
That said, bed size isn't everything when it comes to a truck that needs to be employed in heavy-duty work. For its part, Ford does offer some nifty features, like the Smart Hitch and Onboard Scales that help distribute loads on the bed and on a trailer with ease.
How well the Cybertruck stacks up may largely come down to price, which has become a bit of a focal point since Elon Musk criticised the F-150 Lightning for being too expensive, despite its recent almost US$10,000 price cut. Tesla also gave viewers a sneak peek at some of the more exciting aspects of its recent Cybertruck validation and testing, which can be seen in the tweet embedded below.
