Panic's Playdate will get a new season of games but its Stereo Dock accessory has been put on hold
Panic, the manufacturer behind the Playdate gaming handheld recently had an event during which it provided updates about the device. The bright yellow handheld which launched in 2022 won't be getting a successor yet, but there are lots to be excited about for those who already own the device and those who are considering purchasing one.

The almost 15-minute presentation revealed that Playdate is running a sale on games on its store called Catalog. Announced in May 2023, Catalog originally launched with just 16 games. Now, the store is home to over 200 games. If you own a Playdate, head to the store, which is available both on the device and on the web, to browse the catalog of over 160 games on sale. The sale will run until November 14.
Panic also disclosed that it has a new season of games coming out in 2025. When the Playdate was first announced, it launched with a set of 24 games released over a period of 12 weeks (2 games per week). A new set which will include about a dozen games will be released in 2025. Although, it seems that they won't be free as Panic said details on price, the exact number of games, and the developers behind the games of season 2 will come in 2025.
On the other hand, it did showcase a couple of game coming to its Catalog game store such as a platformer called Owlet's Embrace where you control a young owl swinging with a grappling hook, and an adventure game called Comet. Some of these games will launch this year while others will arrive in 2025.
In hardware related news, Panic revealed that a new stock of the Playdate is available to order on its site with san estimated delivery date of December 2024. Panic also revealed earlier this week that the Stereo Dock accessory which is a cube-like Bluetooth speaker dock for the Playdate has been put on hold.
It cited production issues, bugs, and an increasing cost as the reasons for suspending the device. Whether it will eventually see the light of day remains to be seen.
