OnLeaks has revealed that OnePlus is developing a successor to the Buds Pro, which arrived just over a year ago. Although the leaker has not showcased the earbuds' design yet, they claim that OnePlus will sell them in green, matte black and white colourways. Presumably, the new green colour option will ship with a colour-matched charging case and ear tips.
Purportedly, OnePlus has built the Buds Pro 2 around a twin driver design, mirroring the Xiaomi Redmi Buds 4 Pro. Specifically, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are rumoured to feature 6 mm and 11 mm drivers, with the former optimised to improve treble frequency response. Theoretically, the inclusion of a smaller driver should allow the 11 mm driver to focus on reproducing bass response better than it could on its own.
Additionally, OnLeaks reports that OnePlus has upgraded its 'smart adaptive noise cancellation' technology. While the original OnePlus Buds Pro offer 40 dB of noise cancellation, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 are rumoured to increase this to 45 dB, a handy improvement between generations. Reputedly, OnePlus has equipped the unreleased earbuds with three microphones to optimise ANC and noise suppression when making phone calls, with the ANC itself adapting to minimise environmental noise.
A release date is unknown at this stage, as is its price. However, OnLeaks adds that the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 should last an hour longer with ANC enabled, although that only corresponds to 6 hours of use between charges. It remains to be seen whether this battery life estimate applies when streaming content using the LHDC codec too, which should deliver 24-bit audio at 96 kHz and 900 kbit/s. Incidentally, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is alleged to feature Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity as well, along with IP55 certification and Qi wireless charging via its bundled charging case.
