Nokia HMD Arc: Smartphone comes with two years of security updates and a special version of Android 14
The Nokia HMD Arc is a new entry-level smartphone for consumers with less-demanding needs. The device hasn’t received a release date or pricing yet. It also remains unclear whether the Arc is coming to Europe, but this isn't unthinkable. In terms of specs, the Nokia HMD Arc is pretty much at the lower end of new phones released in 2024. The 6.52-inch display only has a resolution of 1,280 x 576 and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz (i.e. no higher refresh rates). The company claims that the screen can reach 460 cd/m² peak brightness.
The phone is powered by an eight-core Unisoc SC9863A SoC. However, the cores in question are just Cortex-A55s, arranged into two clusters with a max clock speed of 1.6 GHz and 1.2 GHz, respectively. We have already encountered this SoC during our Blackview A52 review. The amount of memory and storage is fairly modest at just 4 GB and 64 GB, respectively. That said, you can expand the storage using a microSD card. The Arc sports a 13MP main shooter and a 5MP main camera.
There is a built-in fingerprint sensor for quick authentication. Given the phone’s very basic specs, it certainly makes sense that HMD has opted to use the Go edition of Android 14 on the phone. The company promises to provide two years of security updates.
