The brand-new Nokia 123 Shield is positioned as an affordable and rugged feature phone that is designed to withstand water, dust, and sand. HMD Global touts a battery life of up to 19 days, an LED flashlight, a microSD slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

HMD Global’s latest feature phone is designed to stand out primarily thanks to its exceptionally rugged body. This stylish feature phone, with its slightly curved silhouette, is IP65-certified and thus protected against dust, sand, and rain, though it is not completely waterproof. For cost reasons, the phone does not include an LTE or 5G modem.

To ensure strong signal strength nonetheless, HMD Global has equipped the device with an antenna that is designed to provide significantly better reception compared to the older Nokia 105. The 1,750 mAh battery is designed to provide up to 19 days of standby time or 27.9 hours of talk time, it charges via USB-C. The LED flashlight on the back is three times brighter than that of the Nokia 110 ($48 on Amazon). The camera, however, is more of a decorative feature, as the sensor has a resolution of just 320 x 240 pixels.

The cell phone features a 2.4-inch display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, a Unisoc SC6531E processor, 4 MB of RAM, and 4 MB of flash memory. To store music locally on the cell phone and play it via Bluetooth or the 3.5 mm headphone jack, a microSD slot is available that supports memory cards up to 32 GB. The Nokia 123 Shield is 15 millimeters thick and weighs 108 grams.

Pricing and availability

The Nokia 123 Shield is marketed as "ultra-affordable" on HMD Global’s website, but the manufacturer has not yet confirmed details regarding price and availability. A Bulgarian retailer lists the phone for around €36 ($41).
