RayCue shrinks Apple iMac G3, transforming it into alarm clock with AI assistant
The 1998 iMac G3 is arguably one of Apple’s most famous designs, as the all-in-one computer features a colorful and transparent case that gives the iMac a retro-futuristic charm. RayCue has now taken inspiration from this design and, with the TimeCapsule G3, offers a compact gadget measuring 10 x 8.5 x 8.9 centimeters that looks almost identical to the iMac G3 – except for its size.
The device is available in two versions. The TimeCapsule G3 Classic features a simple 2.8-inch segment display and a basic buzzer, allowing the device to display the time, function as an alarm clock, and show information such as the current temperature, humidity, and weather. Technically much more interesting is the TimeCapsule G3 Neo, which instead features an IPS panel with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, a higher-quality speaker, and a microphone.
This allows the device not only to play music and function as a Bluetooth speaker, but also to access an AI assistant. In addition to typical AI chatbot conversations, the assistant is primarily designed to provide information on historical events and answer questions such as "What happened 40 years ago today?" Both models feature LEDs that illuminate the transparent casing from the inside, as well as a 1,200 mAh 18650 battery that charges via USB-C.
Pricing and availability
The TimeCapsule G3 Classic is currently being funded on Kickstarter. As part of the "Super Early Bird" offer, the gadget costs $49, the retail price is expected to rise to $99. The "Neo" version, featuring an AI assistant and Bluetooth, costs $79. Shipping begins in September 2026. RayCue ships worldwide, but the price does not include shipping costs, import sales tax, and customs duties. RayCue is an established accessory manufacturer, but delays cannot be ruled out with Kickstarter campaigns.
