The Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 are expected to launch in September. Bloomberg discusses the new features expected for both smartwatches and hints that the first Apple Watch with a blood sugar sensor is on the horizon.

The successors to the Apple Watch Series 11 ($299 on Amazon) and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 are expected to be officially unveiled in September, along with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) and the iPhone Ultra. According to the latest information from Bloomberg, the design of the two models will change very little, contradicting earlier rumors that at least the Apple Watch Ultra 4 was supposed to receive more extensive design updates.

Instead, Apple is said to be focusing on new fitness and health features on the one hand, while also introducing a brand-new smartwatch processor for the first time since the Apple Watch Series 9, which is expected to deliver higher performance. It is not yet known whether this System in Package (SiP) will also enable the standard Apple Watch to achieve a battery life of more than one day for the first time. More significant changes are expected next year – the Apple Watch Series 13 is set to feature a brand-new design as well as a more energy-efficient HMO-OLED display.

Probably the most exciting health-related upgrade, which has been anticipated for over a decade, is the ability to monitor blood glucose levels around the clock, similar to a CGM, except that neither a needle nor the regular purchase of new sensors will be required. According to Bloomberg, the first Apple Watch with a blood sugar sensor will hit the market sometime this decade, though it remains unclear whether the sensor will be ready for the market as early as next year or not until 2029. It’s also unknown whether Apple will be able to provide precise readings or, similar to its high blood pressure detection feature, will only issue alerts when levels are too high or too low.
