iPhone Air 2 set to launch early next year with five major upgrades

On the topic of the iPhone Air 2, the rumor mill is buzzing. Bloomberg, for example, recently stated that the second-generation Apple iPhone Air is expected to receive upgrades to the battery, chipset and cameras. Another rumor suggests that a new color, Lavender, is in the works and will replace Sky Blue, along with a smaller Face ID camera.

MacRumors, citing a research note by veteran industry analyst Jeff Pu, recently reinforced some of these rumors by outlining five upgrades that Apple reportedly has in store for the iPhone Air 2. The most notable of these is a second 48 MP rear camera, i.e., an ultra-wide lens alongside the main sensor, addressing what many considered to be the biggest weakness of the original iPhone Air. A slightly smaller Dynamic Island is also tipped, continuing Apple's push to shrink the cutout across its lineup. 

The remaining three upgrades are expected under the hood, namely a new A20 Pro chip built on TSMC's 2nm process, a second-generation N2 wireless networking chip, and the new C2 5G modem. Together, these upgrades are expected to improve performance, photography, wireless connectivity and battery life without compromising on the handset's thin form factor.

Other specifications, including the 6.5-inch screen, 12GB RAM and 18 MP front camera, will reportedly remain unchanged. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone Air 2 together with the standard iPhone 18 and budget iPhone 18e around March 2027, positioning them separately from the Pro 18 series arriving this fall.
