No One UI 3.5: One UI 3.1.1 to debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, One UI 4.0 set to begin Galaxy S21 testing
Samsung has steadily improved its skin—One UI. Last year, the company released One UI 2.0, then followed it up with One UI 2.1, then One UI 2.5 months later, with each succeeding iteration offering some solid feature upgrades. It appears, however, that Samsung will not do the same with the third generation of its software.
Samsung released One UI 3.0 with Android 11 last year and launched the Galaxy S21 series with One UI 3.1. While one would expect One UI 3.5, the company looks set to eschew that in favor of an incremental upgrade—One UI 3.1.1. According to typically reliable tipster Ice Universe, Samsung will release One UI 3.1.1 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 leaked yesterday, and the premium foldable will debut on August 3. This move makes sense, as Samsung likely has no big software improvements warranting a One UI 3.5 release. The company is likely focusing its efforts on One UI 4.0.
Speaking of One UI 4.0, Ice Universe reckons beta builds will start testing on the Galaxy S21 series next month. One UI 4.0 will, of course, deliver Android 12. If previous OS releases are any indication, a public rollout should begin in Q4, starting in Europe, before becoming available for US models by the end of the year.
