After a long wait and countless leaks, the Nintendo Switch 2 was finally revealed in January, but only through a brief video that left plenty of room for speculation. A full presentation of the new hybrid console is set for the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2 at 9 a.m. ET. If tech journalist Matt Swider is right, pre-orders might go live shortly after the showcase.
Matt Swider is not only a tech journalist and founder of the tech site The Shortcut, but also a well-known restock tracker – someone who closely monitors, analyzes and shares updates on restocks and pre-orders for in-demand products like consoles and graphics cards. “We’re tracking the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date like it’s our job at The Shortcut – because, well, it kind of is,” says Swider. In the past, his platform has helped countless gamers secure orders during the PS5 and GPU shortages.
Swider's analysis suggests that Nintendo will open the pre-order window immediately after the Direct. His observation is based largely on the 2017 launch of the original Switch, which also became available for pre-order shortly after its reveal. He predicts the pre-order window will open on April 2 at 10 a.m. ET. Fans can also expect official details on pricing and launch titles during the presentation – both hot topics of speculation in recent weeks. The Switch 2 was recently spotted on a Dutch online store listed at €499. As for launch games, rumors point to Mario Kart 9, a new Super Smash Bros. and even a remake of Final Fantasy IX as possible day-one titles.
