Next-generation Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone details emerge
It has been over a year since Huawei introduced the Mate X2, a huge foldable smartphone that is even larger and heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold3. In saying that, the Mate X2 is considerably more compact than the Mi Mix Fold, despite having approximately the same-sized interior display when unfolded. Huawei only sold the Mate X2 with a Kirin 9000 too, which could change with this year's model.
According to Huawei Central, Huawei is preparing to unveil the Mate X3 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and a Kirin 9000. Presumably, Qualcomm has created a 4G version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 as it did with the Snapdragon 888. Surprisingly, the Kirin 9000 outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in some tasks, although the gap between the two SoCs is fairly close.
Purportedly, the Mate X3 is expected to launch with an improved back texture and may have been seen at the MIIT in China as the PAL-AL00. While the certification does not reveal any details about the Mate X3, Huawei is rumoured to launch the smartphone next month. Unfortunately, we suspect that Huawei will continue to restrict its flagship smartphone releases to Chinese exclusives, at least initially. In the meantime, Huawei sells the P50 Pocket in Europe and other markets, which we reviewed last week.
