There have been reports of Sony and AMD working on the chip for the PlayStation 6 and that the design is complete. On the other hand, Microsoft is also working towards its next generation Xbox. Now, it seems like both the next generation consoles will arrive in 2027. While nothing has been officially revealed by the respective companies, a game studio’s cancelled unannounced game seems to have spilled the beans.
Supermassive Games was said to be working on a Blade Runner game titled Blade Runner: Time to Live that was a new narrative-heavy action-adventure. According to the report by Insider Gaming last week, the game began pre-production in September last year and it was supposed to end in March this year, with a release planned for September 2027. However, unfortunately, the game was quietly cancelled, but what was interesting was the platforms it was scheduled to release on.
The report states the Blade Runner game was set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the “Gen 10” Xbox and PlayStation systems. This suggests that the next generation Xbox and PlayStation 6 are scheduled for release in 2027, likely November. Seeing as how both Sony and Microsoft are moving towards developing their next consoles, the 2027 release timeline seems credible.
Considering the PS4 and the Xbox One were released in 2013 and then seven years later in 2020, the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles arrived, the seven-year cycle will complete in 2027, marking the arrival of the next generation. Both Sony and Microsoft are also said to release handheld versions alongside full consoles.
