New report says GTA 6 won't get a physical disc after all

Despite an earlier report saying that Rockstar Games will release a physical disc for GTA 6, another report has dashed the hope of fans of Grand Theft Auto. The new report says the info about physical discs coming later was a misinterpretation, and the original status quo, which is that the physical copy will be a digital download code in a box, still stands.
The source of the new info is The Hollywood Reporter (THR), and according to them, the email which surfaced earlier saying that there will be a physical copy of the game in the coming months, while authentic, was misinterpreted according to an unnamed source. According to THR, Rockstar Support was referring to the same physical copy with a digital download code and not a physical disc.
The last part of the email which says “...the following months” has also been clarified by the source to mean the months following Wednesday's (24th of June) announcement of the price and pre-order details, not the months after the game's 19th of November release. Rockstar Games has not issued a statement clarifying the issue.
Nevertheless, if Rockstar Games doesn't release a physical disc copy of GTA 6, its action may cement the death of physical game releases. Considering GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games ever made, and one of the biggest, too, many publishers may follow suit, and this decision may end up killing the market for used games, game sharing, and physical media game preservation. While some publishers will continue to release physical copies of their games, they would be the exception and not the norm.
