New iPhone SE gets 5G, wireless charging, and A15 Bionic SoC with four GPU cores starting US$429
Apple has kicked off its March 2022 device launches with the launch of the new iPhone SE. As with the previous generation iPhone SE, the new iPhone SE once again features Apple's flagship SoC — the A15 Bionic.
This year's iPhone SE comes in three colors — midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED. Apart from the A15 Bionic, the new iPhone SE also has 5G (sub-6) and new camera features like Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, and Deep Fusion.
The iPhone SE comes with a 4.7-inch 1334x750 display and a construction similar to the iPhone 13 series including IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. The display offers a 1400:1 contrast ratio and supports P3 wide-color gamut with a maximum of 650 nits brightness. Apple continues to use Touch ID on the new iPhone SE to keep costs low.
The A15 Bionic in the iPhone sports a 6-core CPU, which Apple says is 1.8x faster than the one in the A11 Bionic in the iPhone 8. The A15 Bionic also features a 16-core Neural Engine that is capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second and a 4-core GPU that Apple says can offer 1.2x the graphics performance than the iPhone SE 2nd gen.
The new iPhone SE features a single 12 MP wide camera with a 6-element lens and an f/1.8 aperture and OIS. Thiis is accompanied by a 7 MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture that also supports Smart HDR 4, Deep Fusion, and Photographic Styles similar to the rear primary camera. The primary camera can support up to 4K 60 video recording while the front camera makes do with 1080p 30.
Apple said that the new iPhone SE offers a much longer battery life with up to 15 hours of local video playback or 10 hours of streaming video playback. The iPhone SE's battery can also be topped-up wirelessly this time or with a 20 W charger that can charge the phone up to 50% in about 30 minutes.
The new Apple iPhone SE will be available in 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage options starting from US$429. Customers from over 30 countries will be able to pre-order the iPhone SE from March 11 with availability from March 18.
In India, the iPhone SE will be available starting from ₹43,900.
