Optoma has announced the ML1080 portable laser projector in China. Also known as the ML1080ST, the device has an RGB laser light source with up to 1,000 LED lumens brightness. The projector has a short throw ratio between 0.78 and 1.2 and a high contrast ratio. Optoma claims it is the world’s most compact cinema-grade projector, covering 98% of the BT.2020 color gamut, rarely seen in smaller projectors.
The ML1080 has power focus and four corner correction tools, with ToF technology enabling the projector to automatically perfect the image; Optoma suggests that this process takes just two seconds to complete. Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR) technology can intelligently reduce brightness when people move near the laser beam. Plus, a kickstand on a flexible hinge allows you to adjust the projector to the right angle for your space.
The Optoma portable projector uses an MT9669 SoC with 3+32GB memory. Ports on the USB-C powered gadget include USB-A, USB-C, HDMI and RS232. The compact device weighs under 1 kg (~2.2 lbs) and the casing, with a matte white finish, contains 50% post-consumer recycled plastics. The ML1080 has won several awards, including the 2023 Green Good Design Award and the 2023 iF Design Award. The Optoma ML1080 will launch in 2023 in markets worldwide. It is unclear precisely when the Optoma ML1080 portable projector will arrive or how much it will cost.
