New Honda full-size electric motorcycle with fast charging based on EV FUN concept launching soon

Honda will launch its first near-production full-size electric motorcycle on September 16. As Electrek reports:

Honda is finally getting ready to show off a full-size electric motorcycle, and it’s coming with something we rarely see on two wheels: fast charging.

The integration of CCS2 DC fast charging underscores Honda's ambition to establish itself in the high-performance electric motorcycle segment.

Test rides in Europe

According to Motorcycle, prototypes have already been tested in Europe. Project manager Masatsugu Tanaka played a key role in this. Motorcycle explains:

We now see Tanaka charging a prototype through a CCS2 charging port, and a shot of the TFT display showing a range of 44 km at a 34 % charge to the fixed battery. By our rough calculations, we estimate of about 129 km, or 80 miles on a full charge.

This suggests a practical range, even though the final data is still pending.

Design based on the EV Fun concept

The design is based on the EV Fun concept, which Honda unveiled at EICMA in 2024. As a naked bike in the tradition of the CB series, it combines familiar styling with modern drive technology and is intended to impress both in the city and on country roads.

Fast charging for everyday use

While many mid-range electric motorcycles only allow slow AC charging, Honda's decision to utilize DC fast charging could significantly increase its suitability for everyday use. Shorter charging times increase the range in practical use and improve competitiveness.

Price to be confirmed

Honda has not confirmed the battery capacity, final range or price. The price in particular will be decisive in determining whether Honda will compete with premium manufacturers such as LiveWire and Zero or target a broader audience. One thing is clear: On September 16, Honda will enter the segment of full-fledged electric motorcycles with fast-charging capability for the first time, sending a clear signal for the next phase of the market.
