After many leaks and a fair bit of teasing, Royal Enfield has finally officially launched its Flying Flea electric motorcycle sub-brand. Flying Flea has officially been announced at EICMA 2024. The new Flying Flea brand takes its name from the small, lightweight motorcycles that were often air-dropped into enemy territory during World War II, which likely gives us an indication of what to expect from the new electric motorcycle brand.
As of the announcement, Royal Enfield has confirmed that Flying Flea will be releasing two electric motorcycles, with the first being a cruiser-style motorcycle called the FF.C6. The second, slated to launch after the FF.C6 in 2026, will be called the FF.S6. Similarly to how Royal Enfield designs its ICE motorcycles around a unified platform with a multi-purpose power plant, both the C6 and S6 will likely be based on the same mid-drive motor and belt-driven setup. Judging from the skinny tyres and compact battery and motor units in images that have been released of the C6, EV fans should be wary of getting their expectations too high — these are not going to be powerful street fighters with incredible range figures, despite Royal Enfield's claims of highway-capable speeds and cruise control.
The Flying Flea motorcycles look like they'll be something of a departure from the typical modern Royal Enfield motorcycles in terms of weight and manoeuvrability, though. The C6 is confirmed to have a forged aluminium frame and a magnesium battery case. In terms of tech bells and whistles, the C6 will have wireless smartphone charging and keyless start with smartphone connectivity. As is typical with most modern EVs, the Flying Flea bikes will also feature OTA software updates.
Electric Royal Enfield motorcycles have long been teased and leaked, and Royal Enfield has even previewed an all-electric version of its Himalayan adventure bike at last year's EICMA, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a Flying Flea follow a similar adventure or sport touring formula. For now, though, the Indian electric motorcycle brand seems to be sticking to the modern classic styling and ergonomics it's so well known for.
