Facelift for Volkswagen ID.4 in 2026: Complete redesign for the next generation

Volkswagen has announced a major overhaul of the ID.4 in 2026. According to Autocar, the redesign will be so comprehensive that it will be equivalent to a new model. This step is part of a larger plan to consolidate the ID family visually and functionally, and to resemble the new ID.1 and ID.2 models in order to strengthen the visual coherence of the ID series.

We’ll redo the ID.4 completely inside and out. It will be a completely different car – a huge step up.

Traditional model names

The company is also retaining traditional model names in order to preserve brand identity. A possible name of "Electric Tiguan" for the revised ID.4 is mentioned as a conceivable option, but has not been confirmed.

A comparison with previous model updates, according to Volkswagen, shows that the ID.4 has only received minor updates so far, such as new software, slight interior adjustments or infotainment improvements, but no radical redesign.
