On September 11, 2025, Honda unveiled the Honda N-One e, the first battery-electric kei car for private users. The starting price is around 2.7 million yen, equivalent to approximately $18,300. Honda aims to offer an affordable, everyday electric vehicle for urban mobility.
Up to 183 miles of range
The N-One e is powered by a 29.6 kWh battery, which enables a range of up to 183 miles (295 kilometers) according to the WLTP test cycle. This surpasses the Nissan Sakura, Japan's best-selling small electric car with a range of 180 kilometers. The compact body measures less than 3.4 meters and is ideal for narrow streets and garages.
Plenty of space despite compact dimensions
According to Elektrek, the flat battery design under the vehicle floor has optimized the interior, creating a surprisingly large amount of space despite the compact dimensions. Technical features such as the Single Pedal Control System are intended to enable smooth acceleration and braking with just one pedal. The N-One e also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality with up to 1,500 watts, allowing the vehicle to be used as a mobile energy source.
Mini EVs account for around 40% of new car sales in Japan
Compared to the electric N-VAN e, Honda's first mini EV for commercial use, the N-One e is aimed specifically at private buyers. Mini EVs account for around 40% of new car sales in Japan. Honda expects the new electric small car to be able to compete successfully in the growing market, particularly against models from Toyota and BYD, thanks to its range, spaciousness and features.
