New details about the Pixel Watch 4 have emerged online, just as Google is preparing to announce the date of its next launch event. Incidentally, the new information about Google's next smartwatches has arrived shortly after a leak revealed details about Google's chosen smartwatch chipset.
As we have discussed separately, Google is widely expected to return to the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset it already uses inside the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 (curr. $399.99 on Amazon). Nonetheless, Android Headlines reports that both Pixel Watch sizes will receive a modest battery life boost this year.
Specifically, the website states that the 41 mm and 45 mm versions will launch with 325 mAh and 455 mAh batteries, respectively. In short, these capacities represent roughly a 5.9% improvement for the 41 mm model but an 8.3% improvement for the larger 45 mm option.
Moreover, Android Headlines asserts that Google will introduce an M55 co-processor with up to 5x AI performance improvements over the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 while drawing less power in the process. As a result, Google is tipped to advertise the Pixel Watch 4 as offering up to 30 hours of battery life with its always-on display (AoD) functionality enabled. Meanwhile, the 45 mm variant will gain an additional 10 hours of battery life.
Google is expected to bump the pair's display brightness from 2,000 nits to 3,000 nits for the Pixel Watch 4 generation, too. Moreover, the company is anticipated to introduce other ancillary changes as well, like the option of charging the smartwatch on its side for use as a bedside clock in a dock. Currently, the Pixel Watch 4 generation is anticipated to arrive on August 20 in five colours alongside four Pixel 10 smartphones.
