Amid a slew of new Casio watches arriving this fall, the Japanese timepiece manufacturer has now introduced the ECB-2300HR-1A, a special Edifice Honda model commemorating the 60th anniversary of Honda’s first Formula 1 Grand Prix victory. It's a limited-edition model, and it takes vintage (and technical) inspirations from Honda’s 1965 F1 win in Mexico with the RA272, the first Japanese car and team to triumph at that level.
Many design details directly reference Honda’s motorsport heritage. The standout white ceramic bezel is the same color as Championship White - the official victory color of Honda cars, also with a gold-accented "60" to mark the milestone year. The bezel scale counts up in five-second increments, which is a neat detail not found on base ECB-2300 models.
The watch dial features the Honda logo in red, with a ring of red encircling the dial, like the Japanese flag and the racing roundel that appeared on the RA272’s nose. The subdial at the 9 o’clock position is modeled after an actual tachometer. Every strap detail is equally deliberate: the exterior showcases the technical specs of the RA272’s 1.5L V12 engine, while the gold keeper at the buckle is engraved with "11" (the car’s race number) and the phrase "Veni, Vidi, Vici," which translates to "I came, I saw, I conquered", and was the favorite motto of Honda's engineer Yoshio Nakamura. The strap’s lining, which is made from artificial suede for wear resistance, carries a sketch of the RA272 engine and the date and exact time of the 1965 victory, "October 24, 1965, 3:46 PM." It has been rendered with red and white accenting as well.
Caseback engravings include official logos and a red-white motif, alongside packaging that holds the victory color theme. It has a steel case measuring 50.2 x 45.8 x 11.8 mm and topped with a sapphire crystal. It supports Bluetooth for smartphone connectivity and Casio’s standard Edifice features: solar-powered operation, world time, stopwatch, multiple daily alarms, countdown timer, perpetual calendar, charge display, date display, and 100-meter water resistance. Night visibility is taken care of by dual Super Illuminator LEDs and anti-reflective coating on the glass. The ECB-2300HR-1A uses suspension arm-inspired lugs, using a mix of carbon and steel.
The watch is already announced in several Asian markets with a starting price of around $530 and is scheduled for release between November and December this year. Production is strictly limited, which makes it a collectible piece.
