The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU has been compared against the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, highlighting the difference between the two graphics cards. While the GeForce RTX 4090 offers a health performance uplift in most cases, DLSS 3 technology also does plenty of heavy lifting to help NVIDIA's latest flagship laptop GPU.

Jarrod's Tech has offered insights into the capabilities of a top-tier GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU and how it compares against the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. NVIDIA prevented Jarrod's Tech from comparing the rasterisation performance of the two cards, leaving the YouTuber to conduct all benchmarks with DLSS and ray tracing enabled. It is also worth stressing that while the GeForce RTX 4090 is NVIDIA's flagship laptop GPU, the card is available with multiple TGPs ranging from 80 W to 150 W. As such, not every GeForce RTX 4090 laptop SKU is the same, which applies across the RTX 40 laptop series.

In this case, Jarrod's Tech tested the Razer Blade 16, a new size in the Blade series that debuted during CES 2023. According to the YouTuber, the Blade 16 tested provides 175 W to the GeForce RTX 4090, with 25 W through to NVIDIA's Dynamic Boost technology. Additionally, the Blade 16 utilised the Core i9-13950HX, a 24-core CPU that Jarrod's Tech compared with the Core i7-12800H and the Blade 17. Based on Jarrod's Tech's findings, the GeForce RTX 4090 offers between 111% and 168% the performance of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.

These performance differences were achieved with a limited sample size of triple-A games, so they may not represent how the two cards compare across all titles. Moreover, the results include performance differences between DLSS 2 and DLSS 3, so they are not a true representation of the advantage that the GeForce RTX 4090 has over the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. If NVIDIA's benchmarks are accurate, then the GeForce RTX 4090 should deliver approximately 50% better rasterisation performance than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.

Jarrod's Tech also highlighted how the GeForce RTX 4090 performs in the same games with DLSS 3 enabled and disabled. In short, DLSS 3 increases FPS by 197% to 263% depending on the title chosen, with NVIDIA's 300% performance claim seeming like a best-case scenario. Meanwhile, the GeForce RTX 4090 delivers 72.4% to 135.8% Blender rendering performance improvements. Please see the video embedded below for Jarrod's Tech's full findings.
