Motorola Moto Watch 200: Leaker shares conflicting images of unreleased affordable smartwatch
Earlier this month, the FCC published documentation for the Moto Watch 200, including box art. As we discussed at the time, the images shown presented the Moto Watch 200 as having a squircle-shaped display, unlike its predecessor. In effect, the change brings Motorola's budget smartwatch offering closer to some of its more expensive peers, such as the Apple Watch Series 8 or Apple Watch Ultra. However, more recent images shared by @_snoopytech_ provide a potentially conflicting view.
Specifically, the images show the Moto Watch 200 as having a round display. For reference, we imagine that @_snoopytech_ has obtained these images from official marketing materials, unlike the FCC. Theoretically, the new images do not rubbish those presented by the FCC. Instead, Motorola may have developed two models with the same internals, as Amazfit tends to do with its smartwatches. The lettering on the back of the round smartwatch emphasises this, with the FCC ID (MOSWZ200) of its squarer sibling included alongside the brand name ‘Moto Watch 200'.
Evidently, the round model supports proprietary wireless charging, as well as a heart rate sensor and replaceable watch straps. Similarly, the FCC's leak confirmed that the Moto Watch 200 would launch with an aluminium case too, with Bluetooth LE and GPS connectivity also on board. Unsurprisingly, the smartwatch will be waterproof to 5 ATM as well. While a release date has not leaked yet, official marketing materials imply that Motorola is close to launching the device. The Moto Watch 200's certification with the FCC suggests that the smartwatch will receive a North American release too.
