Fossil Gen 6 Wellness Edition: Company's first Wear OS 3 smartwatch arrives for US$299 with a revised design and new Wellness app
Fossil has started selling the Gen 6 Wellness Edition, the only Gen 6 model that ships with Wear OS 3. Incidentally, the company has now released the OS update to existing smartwatches, but only those powered by the Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus platform. You can read more about the rollout of Wear OS 3 on Fossil Group smartwatches in our corresponding article.
As expected, the Gen 6 Wellness Edition features a tweaked design from the existing Gen 6 series. Specifically, Fossil appears to have slimmed the chassis and has switched the crown mechanism for one that sits flush against the sides of watch. Incidentally, the latter also sees the removal of the crown guard, which has returned with the Apple Watch Ultra. Surprisingly, Fossil has released the Gen 6 Wellness Edition in three colours too, rather than the single option that it teased last week.
According to Fossil, the new model ships with upgraded health and fitness tracking thanks to the company's new Wellness app. For reference, the app allows you to measure blood oxygen levels, as well as VO2 Max and automatically detect workouts. It remains to be seen whether these features are available across all Fossil Group smartwatches that can run Wear OS 3, though. Seemingly, all specifications remain identical, such as the presence of a Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus chipset, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and a 1.28-inch OLED. The Gen 6 Wellness Edition is orderable now in multiple markets, including the US where it retails for US$299 in all colours.
