A relatively popular power bank has been recalled, the Iniu BI-B41. As announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the portable chargers with serial numbers 000L21, 000I21, 000H21, and 000G21 are within the recall scope, encompassing approximately 210,000 units.
CPSC says that the Iniu BI-B41 power bank has been recalled due to fire and burn hazards, and the agency adds that the portable chargers within the recall scope are prone to overheating and can ignite. Per CPSC, among the 15 reports received, 11 were about fires. These latter reports also include three minor burn injury claims and reported property damage of over $380,000.
The official announcement from Iniu makes things easier for the users who might be confused about the recall. As the company states, if the power bank wasn't purchased from Amazon, it's not within the scope, and users can keep on using it "with confidence."
Iniu further adds that only the black and blue colorways with the matching serial numbers are affected. The other color options, which are orange and red, are safe to use.
For those with affected power banks, Iniu urges the users to stop using the charger immediately and submit a recall request. Eligible users will receive a refund or gift card, and are asked to follow the detailed instructions provided by the company to dispose of the affected portable charger.
Iniu is still selling the power bank on its official website, but it's not available on Amazon anymore. For those who might be interested in something similar that hasn't been recalled yet, the 27 W Baseus 10K PicoGo power bank could be considered as an alternative (curr. $42.49 on Amazon).
