Mobvoi's new releases seem to be coming thick and fast. It has recently expanded its burgeoning smart home sector with its first wireless security camera, as well as its first ANC wireless headphones. Now, it has returned to slightly more familiar ground with a new pair of AirPod clones. However, it has made some very uncharacteristic decisions for their debut.
Despite having its established TicPods series for the category of TWS earbuds, these new models are called the Mobvoi Earbuds Gesture instead. Furthermore, they are being introduced through the medium of crowdfunding, despite the fact that the company has its own sales portals already.
Then again, these new buds appear to have something very like the TicMotion gesture controls found in the Pro variants of the second-gen TicPods. This feature, which is associated with Red Dot, IF Design and Good Design awards, allows the earbuds to accept or reject voice calls in response to the user nodding or shaking their head respectively.
Alternatively, the Earbuds Gesture also support touch controls, as, indeed, do the TicPods 2 Pro. They also look much like these existing TWS earbuds, although they are finished in shiny black rather than in navy, white or pink. Furthermore, the upcoming product is being teased with an estimated battery life of no less than 50 hours - even the full TicKasa headphones are only rated for a maximum of 30.
Otherwise, Mobvoi asserts that their new "Ultimate Earbuds" have "High Quality Audio". Active noise cancellation (ANC) has not been mentioned, although their "Dual-Mic Noise Isolation" feature sounds promising in that general vein. The OEM has not yet given a concrete date for their launch: could they be aiming for OnePlus' thunder?
