As rumored last year, Meta will open its first dedicated physical store next month in Burlingame, California. Opening on May 9th, the retail space will showcase Meta’s Portal, Ray-Ban Stories and Quest 2 devices, allowing customers to try them out.
The in-store experiences will include activities such as the ability to make a call with Portal to a retail associate and to play with the Story Time feature. You will also be able to try on a range of Ray-Ban Stories glasses to find the style, color and lens to suit you.
An interactive Quest 2 display wall will showcase the range of VR hardware, accessories and compatible games. Plus, you will be able to play Beat Saber, GOLF+, Real VR Fishing or Supernatural in VR, with a nearby wall-to-wall curved LED screen mirroring the headset’s display. Each customer who takes part will go home with a 30-second mixed reality clip of their VR experience.
The store at 322 Airport Blvd is relatively small, measuring 1,550 ft² (~144 m²), with opening hours of 11 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday. You will be able to buy Portal devices, Quest 2 headsets, and accessories at the store, but Ray-Ban Stories are only available online.
Meta has previously hosted retail pop-ups at airports and in New York. Also noted in the announcement was the addition of a Shop tab to meta.com, which the company says makes it easier to shop its range of hardware.
