Meta has begun releasing the v64 update for Quest headsets. The software brings a range of improvements and features, most of which are for the Meta Quest 3 headset. For example, the company has worked to enhance the camera passthrough on the device, delivering an image that matches your room more accurately. The company notes that it plans to “eventually make Passthrough indistinguishable from reality.”
The change log for v64 suggests that it is now easier to view phone notifications with Passthrough, and the image is less blurry, particularly in lower lighting. Under the Experimental Settings tab, users can now access External Microphone support, allowing them to connect a mic via USB-C. Also listed in this section is a Use Apps While Lying Down tool, which you could use to watch a movie. This feature arrived for the Quest Pro and Quest 2 devices with update v63.
The build 64.0 also allows users of all models to choose to continue casting when they remove the headset. Plus, Meta has added a shortcut to join friends in public Meta Horizon Worlds; you can directly join them from the People app. The new Meta Quest v64 software is rolling out in phases, so it may not reach some devices for several weeks. When it is available, the update should begin automatically when your headset is turned on and connected to Wi-Fi.
